    IDP Roster Limits

Post by Wetter than Dutch Dikes on Tue Jun 26, 2012 5:34 am

Oh and I still hate the IDP roster minimum of 8 guys. If people want to be deadweight like a couple guys last year, having 5 IDPs (needing to start every one of them every week) and not updating their roster when one of the 5 is doubtful/out, then certainly it hurts the league, but that's on them to be smarter & to care more. We got rid of those guys though, so everyone else had their own personal strategy for how to handle the right amount of IDPs. Expanding the rosters by 3, and then upping the minimum from 5 to 8 kills our ability to be creative with teambuilding. 6 I'm fine with, 7 would be an improvement, but 8 blows. Again though, I'd rather put the responsibility on owners to update their roster and eliminate the IDP minimum altogether.

The only reason we upped the roster count was to implement the IDP minimum requirement. If you want more players to play with we can certainly expand it again. But the reason we upped it was it because it was absurd that in a DYNASTY format (And I know he was a rookie last year and normally he will be drafted in Rookie Draft) but WTF was DeMarco Murray doing undrafted. Furthermore, IDP's get hurt all the time and player's sign these picks to multiple year deals need to cut them in order to pick up a replacement defensive player. This really hurts the DYNASTY experience.

Hey if you want to bump rosters I am ALL for that. Hell most dynasty leagues have contract lengths of 4-5 years and 40 man rosters. If that is a route you want to take it we can certainly bump rosters even more. But the addition of the 3 players certainly does not affect you ability to "be creative". Last year there was 7 IDP (includes Kicker and Punter) with 23 man roster. That equals 16 offensive players. This year 10 IDP's with 26 roster = 16 offensive players. So you have the same "creative" ability you had last year.

Additionally many leagues put restrictions in place to limit owners from having say 7 Running Backs. Here you can build anyway you want with multiple offensive sets. So I think plenty of "creative" artistic ability can be conveyed.

If anyone else hates the 8 man IDP requirement please let your voice be heard. Bousquet, are you for increasing rosters to say 30 for future years?

We bumped rosters up because of Demarco, etc. Exactly. It wasn't supposed to be IDP related. So after the 8IDP rule, we were back to square one.

No not necessarily, because we had a few owners within the league that did have quite a few extra defensive players. Bear's team sticks out the most. I certainly would like to keep the 8 IDP players in place. However, if you want/think we should go to say a 30 man roster this is certainly a possibility. Obviously want to here other takes on this. If I remember correctly I thought we polled this last year and it met resistance. I could be wrong. I am not inclined to increase the Cap any because all this does is increase the values of the stars. Those borderline players are still only going to go for $1-$2K max.

This issue is being brought to the table in a poll. The question is, do you want more flexibility and not be restricted to being forced to have 8 IDP players?

I for one am a player who likes the flexibility but was in favor of putting the restriction in place because IDP guys get hurt all of the time and you see dumb ass owners starting injured defensive players. But I am open to have the restriction lifted, please chime in league.

So there's more IDP positions this year? Adding 3 spots? Are they any? Or 1LB, 1 DL, 1 DB? Or what? That sorta stink that we're adding more roster spots but keeping cap the same, if that's the case. Just seems silly.

Not starting rosters, we had a poll last yr and the agreement was a 3 player roster bump. But with the stipulation the roster requirement be a minimum of 8 idp's (actual position does not matter) on each players roster.

IDP's tend to get hurt more than any other roster spot, whether it be missing a game here or there. As a result you see owners dropping those players sitting on the bottom of their offensive bench. Well then you have young promising players who may not have had a chance to fully develop get dropped in order to fill a 1 week injury issue.

As far as cap went, it was one of those things where we are adding 3 end of the roster spots. Whether it be IDP 6-8 or someones 6th running back or 8 wide receiver, these guys are $1K -$3K tops. So all raising CAP does is increase what a Foster, a Rodgers, a Calvin actually go for. And given it was only 3 players it has relatively little impact on the cap.

Bousquet just doesn't like being forced to a restriction. So that is the purpose of the debate and soon to be poll. Does a restriction need to be implemented?

I'd say no..I'd say if people want to flirt with less IDP players, and they get injuries, sucks for them. Then THEY have to let go of their young promising talent. Poor managemnet skills on their part. I'd say no to the restriction. Let the team managers decide.

That's exactly how I feel, Bear. Love you long time.

In time, maybe it'll prove that owners are their own worst enemy regarding how to handle/value depth at IDP, but if I get hit with injuries to guys I don't feel good about dropping, well then I know I f'd myself and I've gotta deal with the consequences of dropping someone I like (expensive IDP guy or promising young offensive player).
