Re: Contract Length
Steve at the present time there is no maximum amount for 2 yr contracts. We allow no more than six 3 yr contracts. Now the wording only states no more than 6 but does not mention rookie vs standard. However, at the time that was written the rule only called for 2 yr rookie contracts. So the intent was no more than six 3 yr free agent deals. Because you have 5 rookie picks every yr (at least to start) if you were to include rookie contracts now u are saying you are alowed only 1 three yr free agent contract.

Ok. I am attempting to re-state what you just said, but to clarify. Max of six 3-yr deals allowed, with rookie contracts not counting towards the six?

Re: Contract Length
That is correct. I will ammend wording in rule book to clearly indicate this.

Re: Contract Length
OK so this will present an issue as previously the idea was that we could only have three 6 yr contracts on the roster at all times. But that was due to rookie contracts only being 2 yrs in length.
So we can either increase the amount of 3 yr contracts allowed on roster or implement a contract year cap. I would prefer the latter personally. This would go into effect for 2014.
So this would allow teams to hand out as many 3 yr contracts they want so long as they are within the cap. If you need to bring up a taxi squad player who has a 3 yr contract and you only have the space for 1yr, you will need to make a roster move to clear 2 yrs to bring up the taxi squad player.
Thinking this cap should be no less then 40 and no more than 45.

Re: Contract Length
Love the idea, 45 seemed high at first until perusing current totals. It's a pretty good split compared to 45. Any danger, in people's opinion, over not having a minimum team total?
Oh one more thing, I definitely don't think IR should count towards the 45, because if a team has a string of shat luck, they've gotta be able to do the best they can to patch the sinking ship, as to not encourage tanking (at the very least, they've got to be able to replace multi-yr contracts of those on IR with 1yr guys, no questions asked).

Re: Contract Length
Minimum hadn't thought of it. I mean if you want a bunch of 1 yr guys I personally don't see the problem. In my opinion you are only hurting yourself.
But certainly open to discussion on it.
On the IR thing just looking at the settings I think it is treated the same as salary. Not entirely sure if this means it would treat the salary year as cut in half or not...but we could manually adjust if it does count it.
Good question though.

Re: Contract Length
This vote came in as a tie and as a result we will not change it.
So you may not have more than 6 contracts of 3 yrs on your roster at any point. Rookie Contracts do not count against this number.
Wish this vote went the other way.
